During daytime, the colorful polyps remain mostly retracted, showing off the bright skeletal bases. At night, the tentacles extend and the coral comes alive with a kaleidoscope of colors as the polyps feed. This makes Goniopora an incredibly beautiful addition to tanks with controllable day/night light cycles.

Goniopora thrives under moderate to high intensity lighting. Provide moderate water movement to prevent detritus buildup. Maintain alkaline water between 8.1-8.4 pH and calcium around 400 ppm. Perform weekly 5% water changes and regular tests for alkalinity, magnesium, nitrates, and phosphates.

Target levels should be: carbonate alkalinity 7-12 dKH, magnesium 1350 ppm, nitrates <20 ppm, phosphates <0.1 ppm. For feeding, target microplankton, phytoplankton, and small meaty foods.
